Virus samples are account-wide collectibles that permanently unlock powerful upgrades in the Virus Sample Lab.
β οΈ Important: Difficulty Requirement
Virus samples ONLY spawn on Hard difficulty or higher!
- Not available on Easy or Normal difficulty
- Available on Hard, Insane, and Extreme
- Same locations regardless of difficulty (Hard+)
- Once collected, permanently unlocked for your account
- Can be collected in any order
π Virus Sample Rewards
Each virus sample you collect can be spent in the Virus Sample Lab to unlock permanent upgrades:
Available Upgrades (1 sample each):
- Health Boost I-V: +5% health per level (max +25%)
- Equipment Cooldown I-V: -3% cooldown per level (max -15%)
- Melee Damage I-V: +5% damage per level (max +25%)
- Reload Speed I-V: +3% speed per level (max +15%)
- Weapon Damage I-V: +2% damage per level (max +10%)
- Special Infected Resistance I-V: +10% resistance per level (max +50%)
Note: These upgrades apply to ALL classes and persist across all game modes!
π‘ Virus Sample Hunting Tips
- Difficulty: Must play on Hard or higher - samples don't spawn on Easy/Normal
- Visual Cues: Look for glowing green vials, often in hard-to-reach places
- Audio Cues: Samples emit a faint bubbling sound when nearby
- Team Collection: Only one player needs to collect it for the whole team
- Exploration: Most samples are off the main path - explore thoroughly
- Before Defense: Many are placed before triggering defense sequences
- Class Choice: Use Slasher for speed or Medic for survivability
- Private Lobbies: Use private games to explore without pressure
- Checkpoint System: Samples save at checkpoints - you don't need to finish the mission

- Team Collection: Only one player needs to grab the sample for everyone to get credit
- Checkpoint Saves: Samples save at checkpoints - you don't need to complete the mission
- Visual/Audio Cues: Look for green glowing vials and listen for bubbling sounds
- No Respawn Penalty: You keep collected samples even if you fail the mission
- Challenge Rotation: Some samples are only available during specific weekly challenges
